A PACER ELECTED HORSE OF THE YEAR IN USA

10 wins out of as many races run resulted in a female pacer Twin B Joe Fresh being named Mare of the Year at the Dan Patch Awards the event that brought together US trotting journalists. The popularity of pacers in the USA meant that for the first time a female from this speciality received this award.
The response from the ballot boxes was overwhelming with 126 out of 142 votes for Twin B Joe Fresh trained by Chris Ryder, who also received the award for best 4-year-old pacer. In the absolute voting for horse of the year, the trotters had to settle for the other two steps and by a large margin. Seven votes for Jiggy Jog and four for Karl, by the way, both of whom are now retired from competition. Jiggy Jog still won the title of trotter of the year with 84 votes. Decisive for her were her victory in the International Trot and those in the John Cashman Memorial, the Arthur J Cutler Memorial and the Sebastian K Invitational, which brought her into the list of the top 10 richest females ever with just over $3 million in earnings.
