DARIO VARGIU AND VERSO LE STELLE WIN THE CORSA DELL'ARNO. SALVATORE SULAS AND STEFANO BOTTI FIRST IN THE PALIO DELLE REGIONI CIRCUIT

In front of a large crowd on a very successful day, the 198th edition of the Corsa dell'Arno, Italy's oldest horse race, saw the victory of Verso Le Stelle, a son of Sea The Stars ridden by Dario Vargiu, trained by Bruno Grizzetti and wearing the historic colours of Aldo and Carlo Borsani. Dario Vargiu made an excellent choice, anticipating his opponents and gaining a slight advantage that he managed to maintain right up to the finish line. Orologio came in second, narrowly ahead of Tempo di Renaccio with ‘Tore’ Sulas who, thanks to the eight points earned in this race, managed to take first place in the Palio delle Regioni rankings reserved for jockeys, while Stefano Botti came out on top among the trainers, tied with Melania Cascione but favoured by his higher earnings.

Meanwhile, Dario Vargiu set another small record, that of the most wins in the Arno race, with this one making it six!
