COINTREAU WINS GRAND PRIX BARBETTA ON THE LEAD

A decisive start in the Mario and Ettore Barbetta Prize with Cointreau and Alessandro Gocciadoro managing to take the lead despite starting from the second row. 2,600 metres in the lead for the son of Nad Al Sheba, who kept control, trying not to let Enki Brown Effe behind him get away, who in the end could only manage second place with much to complain about. In third place was an excellent Eritrea, confirming the absolute dominance of the front runners.
For Cointreau, owned by Mr Samuele Querci, this was his thirteenth victory in 76 career starts, but his first ever in a group race, a category in which he had previously only achieved a few good placings.
It should be noted that this Premio Barbetta was the final race of the first part of the Group 3 circuit for older horses, which also included the Premio Ponte Vecchio (Florence), the Premio Locatelli (Milan) and the Premio Giorgio Jegher (Trieste).
