Breeder

The birth of a foal is always an exciting moment and for the horse breeder, it is even more so. He chose the right cross, evaluated the bloodlines, cared for the mare throughout the gestation and anxiously awaited the birth of the foal. Birthing and breeding horses is an exciting but also risky profession. Nature is often unpredictable and the result of crossbreeding does not always live up to expectations. For this reason, love for horses is not enough to be a breeder, but you also need a strong motivation. When physical commitment and economic investment are not repaid with a satisfactory outcome, even the most deep-rooted passions are put to the test. This is why the breeder, in addition to knowledge of the breeding techniques and genetic characteristics of each breed, must also have a solid entrepreneurial mentality. The breeder does not only take care of the genetic reproductive aspect. His task is to ensure the growth and training of young horses to present them well-behaved at shows. From the choice of the foal's diet to that of the trainers and their breaking techniques, everything passes through his supervision. Taking care of the large spaces where mares and foals need to be raised in the best possible way is also a fundamental aspect. The definition of the morphological characteristics of today's equine breeds is the result of the skillful cross-breeding and improvement work carried out by breeders over the centuries. The very survival of some breeds in danger of extinction is the result of their recovery and protection work in favor of the local equine breeding heritage. From their associations, the Genealogical Books were born through which it was possible to trace the origins of the formation of each breed.
